Because Rogers Park Deserves Better

Every week, I hear from neighbors who are frustrated. Frustrated about the lack of support for small businesses. Frustrated with crime on their block. Frustrated that so many promises are made — and so few are kept.

I feel that frustration too.

For years now, I’ve done what I can from the outside. Promoting local shops. Cleaning up trash. Attending meetings. Asking the tough questions. Standing with people who felt unheard.

But more and more, I’ve been asking myself: Is it time to do more?

Some of you have asked me if I’m thinking about running for Alderman. I’ll be honest — I’ve thought about it. Not because I want to be a politician, but because I believe Rogers Park deserves better representation — someone who shows up even when there aren’t cameras, who’s not afraid to speak truth to power, and who truly puts the community first.

If I ever decide to run, it will be because I believe that together, we can make Rogers Park safer, stronger, and more accountable. Until then, I’ll keep doing what I’ve always done: being present, speaking up, and standing with you.

We all deserve better — and I’m ready to help build it.

Building a Safer Rogers Park Together

Safety is something every neighbor in Rogers Park deserves — walking down the street, sending our kids to school, and living without fear.

I’ve heard the concerns — from parents worried about their children, seniors feeling unsafe in their own homes, and business owners hoping for a secure environment to thrive.

For years, I’ve worked alongside community groups, local police, and residents to find real solutions — neighborhood watches, youth programs, and improved communication.

Some have asked if I’m thinking about running for Alderman. I am considering it, because I believe leadership means taking on tough issues like public safety head-on, with honesty and accountability.

If I run, I want to build stronger partnerships between residents and law enforcement, invest in prevention programs, and make sure every voice is heard.

Together, we can make Rogers Park not only vibrant but safe for everyone.

Public Safety and Health issue

Swanette Triem has workers on her property without a permit displayed again. Those who have been following the Swanette Triem/North Shore School story on Rogers Park in 1,000 Words may remember when Swanette Triem was inspected by the IEPA during the illegal and unsafe demolition of the North Shore School.

The facts:

Swanette Triem continuosly creates public safety and health hazards at her 1217 W. Chase Avenue Chicago, IL. 60626 property. Some of these issues are demolition and construction without a permit displayed, unsecure dangerous and contaminated property, Spreading of Asbestos and other poisons in our air and water.

Swanette Triem is a supporter of Alderman Joe Moore and contributed financially to the alderman before the demolition of the North Shore School.

An observation:

Swanette Triem must believe that her bank account trumps the public safety and health of our community.

From an earlier post concerning Swanette Triem's North Shore School demolition on the same property:

These photos are of the IEPA (Illinois Evironmental Protection Agency), inspecting the North Shore School demolition site for contaminants that could poison residents of Rogers Park.

The demolition was ordered to stop, but Swanette Triem, had it continued over the evenings and weekends when the IEPA would not be watching. this poisoned the air of thousands of nearby residents with Asbestos and other hazardous substances. Alderman Joe Moore approved the rezoning, then demolition after accepting campaign contributions. You can read more about this here: http://rp1000.blogspot.com/2010/02/its-time-to-revisit.html.

Neighborhood Safety is Non-Negotiable

Safety is the foundation of a thriving community. Yet, too many in Rogers Park feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods. We need more resources, better policing, and community programs that protect all residents.

I’m committed to pushing for real solutions that keep our streets safe for families, seniors, and kids.

Protecting Our Parks

Our parks are vital community spaces that need care and investment. I’m advocating for better maintenance, safety improvements, and programs that make Rogers Park’s parks welcoming for all.

Let’s preserve these green spaces together.

When the Lights Go Out

Last night, half the block went dark. Again.

It wasn’t just a power outage—it was a reminder of how neglected parts of Rogers Park have become. Streetlights stay broken for weeks. Potholes go unrepaired. Simple requests—lighting, safety, clean streets—are met with silence from Alderman Joe Moore’s office.

Basic services shouldn’t be a luxury. Our neighborhood deserves the same care and attention given to others across Chicago. We pay our taxes. We show up to meetings. But we keep getting ignored.

I’ll keep documenting the issues. I’ll keep showing up. And I’ll keep working with neighbors who refuse to accept neglect as normal.

Because Rogers Park deserves better.
